Off to school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People say he is too small for school, but my dear son seems to love it there. For the first time in his life, he was away from me for an hour...he did miss me but not bad enough to cry...:-). He likes to be around people. May be that's the reason he likes school. This has taken a huge worry off his dad's shoulders...;-)...he would have cried on the first day of our baby's school if he had stayed any longer....:-). Let's hope that our lil one breezes through this year with all smiles......

My Baby
My baby is no more a baby....hmm...he is a big boy now...:) He will turn 2 soon and he has already started assisting me at home...:) Wants to do everything I do and that too on his own. He sweeps and mops, takes the dirty vessels to the sink. Doesn't let me sit with my empty plate in front of the TV. He tugs me along to the kitchen or jus removes the plate...so cute......:) He waters the plants and has his very own mint in the garden...:) He switches off the lights and fan once he leaves the room and asks everybody else to do so too. He points his fingers at the door asking me to close it when we leave the house....there are so many more that my lil one can do.......-:) even with his risky antics he is an adorable boy......
Mothers and sons
The role of a mother in a child's life is something that can not be replaced. She is instrumental in shaping up the child's character. But how far can a mother cling on to her child? Parents are a means to bring a new life in to this world. They have the responsibility to teach them to be a good human being. But they can not force the child to live the life they want them to lead.
Any individual needs his or her own space. So how much space does a married son need? He must know to balance his life between his parents and his own family. His own family is his wife and children. He has the responsibility to take care of his parents. A wife can not deny her husband that right. At the same time he should realise that his family needs his care too.
When a son doesn't know this balancing act, the parents take advantage. There are many children who forget their parents once they are married. But there are a few guys who love their parents unconditionally. At this point, there are not many parents who try to make their daughter in-law feel at home. She is some one who is always an outsider. Even when the daughter in-law tries to adjust in her new environment, the parents in-law don't let her.
Why do parents get their son married? Its to get him a partner who will stay with him all through his life. But how many parents let it become a reality? They try their mighty best to keep them apart.
Will there ever be a time when a daughter in-law will be welcomed as the daughter of the house too, the sisters in-law will treat her as their own sister? When this happens there won't be the question of space at all.

Trip to Pondy
I like to visit new places but like any typical Indian house wife, I never got a chance. For almost a year all I could see was just beyond the compound wall of my house. I didn't know the route to even my son's paediatrician. For someone who has been bitten by the travelbug, that was just like being in a prison. But once my son turned one, he wanted to explore the neighbhorhood and then it was not enough for him. He wanted to go beyond that and this gave me a chance to push my hubby to take us on a trip, one that he has been promising for 3 years now. I wanted to visit Pondicherry but he wanted to take his friend's advice and settle down in a resort lazing around.
I was lucky this time as he couldn't get one booked. We checked into a hotel and toured the place by local transport and partly on foot. This way we explored a lot.
My husband thought I will be bored and we will be returning the same day. As we started walking around and spoke to the locals, we got to know that there is more to Pondy than the beer and wine....The area around the Aurobindo Ashram is so green and clean with French colonial architecture that it gave us a feel good walking experience......you can just walk around the park nearby or the beach road that is long and quiet with minimum traffic.
The hotel staff informed us about a boat house en route to Cuddalore. What they failed to inform us was to take enough clothing to enjoy the place more completely. But in spite of that we did enjoy. My son who loves water had a whale of a time. We had to literally drag him out....:-)
Its a place where the river joins the sea. The water is fresh and not so deep.
In the evening, we had a nice long walk along the sea. One thing that should be appreciated is the people's sense of cleanliness. Almost everybody uses the bins and littering and spitting is very minimal. The ice cream vendors have a bin attached to their vehicles. For a place that is so abundant with tourists, it is very clean. A welcome experience for us after visiting our Chennai beach. This years litter on the Marina during Kaanum Pongal was a whopping 60 ton.
The trip was something that will stay in my memory for long as I had been yearning for years to travel....:)

Motherhood
Motherhood makes you disappear. That's what happened to me....:-) Every time I think about posting something, I don't get the time to touch my laptop....and before I finally sit down, I lose the feel with which I wanted to write...Though I have missed writing, reading and all other stuff I am passionate about, I have never once regretted being a mother...
My li'l son is now 19 months old and he is a naughty and cute toddler...:-)
He makes the day for everyone around us. As much as his baby talks make us delighted, his fearless stunts make our hearts stop....his energy level is so high that I feel drained by the end of the day.....phew....Boys are boys and girls are girls.....

If.........
It's a chilly Sunday morning. There is lot of commotion in the living room. I am half awake. Been so from 4.30 in the morning, ever since my in-laws started their kitchen work. They are getting ready for a local trip around Bangalore. The calling bell rings to announce the arrival of the taxi.
My mother-in-law comes into my room and says, "My dear, I have made idlis and rice for you. Take care and eat well." The calling bell rings the second time. My brother has come. He is to keep me company till the arrival of my family. I have been bed-ridden for the past one month as I have been advised by doctor to take reat. Books, laptop and the phone are my all time companions.
My 13-year old nephew calls out to his mother, my elder sister-in-law, "Mom, I am taking my little cousin down-stairs. Ask Aarthi to carry our bags." My sister-in-law warns him not to open the lift door till it lands properly on the ground floor. Aarthi, his sister, carries the bags and accompanies her brother. Their 5-year old cousin, my younger sister-in-law's daughter, is all smiles. Both the kids have been telling her what all they were to see that day. They will be going to the Bannerghatta national park, will see zebra, girafee, bear, lion, tiger.......all the three are excited.
My sister-in-law comes into my room and tells me that its very bad that all our plans are spoiled and I am not able to accompany them. It would have been more fun if I too had been able to go with them. We had planned this trip two months before. I wish them all a great day ahead. My husband kisses me bye and they all leave.
If all this were to happen, and I didn't have to imagine the whole thing, if my nephew really did take his cousin with him, if my little niece walked with her cousin, if my sister-in-law didn't have to lock her son in the cab and ask the driver to take care................My nephew's brain has not developed enough to guide his physic to perform the day-to-day activities while my niece has a defective heart which does not let her exert herself physically.

The Fest
I am just back home after soaking in the 4-day long Sundaram Finance - Mylapore festival which is held every year during the week before Pongal. I was not able to attend the first two days of the fest though.
It’s a unique community festival organized by Mylapore Times, a neighbourhood newspaper. Each day starts off with a concert by the budding young talents in the lush Nageshwara Rao Park.
On Saturday evening, there was a choir by young girls and boys who had performed earlier in the week and were invited again to give a guest performance. Each one had a huge smile and was so enthusiastic. One of them was on the dholak and his beat sense was very excellent. Must be a Marathi, my friend said and I believe he turned out to be correct (The kid's name is Himanshu...).
On the evening of the final day, there was a concert by young children from a government school and there was this young boy. He must be just 7 or 8 years old. He was on the drums. It requires lot of concentration to bring in the coordination between the hands and the feet. This guy was amazing. He gave a non-stop solo performance on the drums and tango for about 10 minutes. The crowd was mesmerized.

Then came a performance by specially abled children who can not hear. But how did they know when to start the performance and how to proceed? They never missed a beat and the choreography was so fine. I was surprised!
In addition to encouraging not so popular folk and other art forms, this festival has been a platform for these young kids to expose their talents. Wish many more communities come forward and do something of this kind.
